Welcome to day #2 of our Genetics unit. The idea behind doing a "blended unit" (part online, part in class) is that you will have opportunities to not only receive information in class, but also on your own.
1. Today, we will be going through a mini lesson on dominant and recessive traits. If you'd like to get a jump start on this, or you missed class today, feel free to click on the link below to view the Khan Academy site that explains, essentially, the same thing. Take notes in your interactive notebooks! Remember to title the page, "Dominant and Recessive Traits" and record the page numbers in your interactive notebook.
After you wrap your mind around the idea of what dominant/recessive traits and heterozygous and homozygous alleles are, we're going to move on to doing some practice with Punnett Squares. Just in case you need more information on this and don't feel ready for the assignment, feel free to visit this site, where more fun with Punnett Squares happens!
Before the end of the day, send an email of your notes to your teacher. This will include notes you had from the mini lesson or virtual lab(s) you did with your partner. It may seem silly, but it's a great way to show what you've learned.
